DPL Introduces Comics Plus Digital Resource

Decorah Public Library is excited to announce a new partnership with Comics Plus, a digital resource that provides free access to a large catalogue of comics, graphic novels, and manga from major and indie publishers. The resource offers three separate catalogues to serve Children and Emergent Readers, Teen and Young Adult Readers, as well as Adults. All three catalogues will be available to any Decorah Public Library cardholder.  

Comics Plus offers distinct features that encourage access to materials, including no hold or wait times, and unlimited checkouts. These features ensure that all readers may have immediate access to the books that they are interested in. “Graphic Novels are one of the most popular genres of books at the library,” stated Children’s and Young Adult Librarian, Sophie Nall, “Comics Plus will be a huge expansion of our selection of those materials, and will provide instant access from anywhere our readers are.”  This new digital resource supports DPL’s mission to provide free access to popular books for all readers and helps the library keep pace with current trends in graphic novel publishing.  

Comics and graphic novels have been shown to engage even the most reluctant readers, while manga, a Japanese style of comic, has become especially popular with teens and young adults. Because translating, importing, and printing international works can be costly, digital platforms like Comics Plus have allowed this form to flourish among U.S. readers.  

Library users can access Comics Plus today through DPL’s online catalog, or through the Comics Plus app. Access is available with a library card number and 10-digit PIN.
