Public Meeting Room Policy



The Decorah Public Library has meeting room spaces that primarily are available to support library programs and functions that further the goals of the library. When not in use by library or library affiliates, the rooms are available for use by the public. These rooms are the two class rooms located in the mezzanine area and the Public Meeting Room located on the lower level of the library. In accordance with the ALA Library Bill of Rights (paragraph six) and its interpretation pertaining to meeting rooms, the library makes meeting facilities available on an equitable basis.

Use of the meeting rooms does not imply endorsement, support, or sponsorship by the Decorah Public Library of the activities that take place or of the beliefs of the group using the area.

Public Program Room – capacity approximately 45-50

Library programs and meetings, City Hall functions, civic activities and library affiliates will have first consideration in scheduling of the rooms. The rooms are available for use by non-profit and educational entities. The rooms are available for political purposes. Free will donations for the use of the room space are welcomed.


All scheduling requests must be made through the Director. Organizations may request room usage by submitting a request online via this webpage.

Groups wishing to use the facilities on a regularly monthly basis may do so by submitting a written request.

The scheduling of the library public meeting spaces is at the discretion of the Director and the Board of Trustees. The Library Director is authorized to deny permission for the use of the areas to any group or individual that is disorderly or violates the guidelines as established.

Groups are asked to record attendance for all meetings on the clip board provided near the Public Program Room door.


Organization contact person will be responsible for any problems that arise. This includes financial responsibility for equipment damaged beyond normal wear or for missing equipment.

A custodial fee of $25.00 will be charged to groups who misuse the room. Any costs for damages will be billed to the organization. 

Set up and take down of table and chairs are the organizations responsibility. All tables and chairs must be taken down at the end of each meeting.

Meetings scheduled during library hours may not interfere with the normal operation of the library. It will be the responsibility of the meeting group to supervise any small children in attendance.

The kitchenette facilities are available for light refreshments, Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed only in the Public Program Room.

No selling, solicitation or taking or orders may occur without written permission from the Library Director.
