The Decorah Public Library has meeting room spaces that support library programs and functions that further the goals of the library. When not in use by library or library affiliates, the rooms are available for use by the public. In accordance with the ALA Library Bill of Rights (paragraph six) and its interpretation pertaining to meeting rooms, the library makes meeting facilities available on an equitable basis. Use of the public meeting rooms does not imply endorsement, support, or sponsorship by Decorah Public Library of the activities that take place or the beliefs of the group using the area.
- Library programs and meetings (including Northeast Iowa RSVP)
- Friends of the Decorah Public Library
- City of Decorah programs and activities
- Civic, educational, and nonprofit activities
- General Public
- The Meeting Room is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, using the priorities outlined above.
- The Meeting Room must be scheduled at least 5 days in advance, but cannot be scheduled more than 8 weeks in advance.
- The Meeting Room cannot be used for private parties or other personal events.
- The Meeting Room is available for educational, informational, or cultural meetings during the hours the library is open.
- Admission fees, donations, or other fees may not be charged or solicited. The meeting room is not available for fundraising, selling merchandise or services, soliciting for later sales, or placing orders. Fundraising events sponsored by the Library or Friends of the Library that benefit the library are exempt.
- The room may be rearranged as needed but must be returned to its original configuration and condition at the end of each meeting.
- Attendance must be recorded on the clipboard provided near the Meeting Room door.
- Groups are limited to two meeting room reservations per month.
- Study rooms are available for individuals or small groups.
- Admission fees, donations, or other fees may not be charged or solicited. Study rooms are not available for fundraising, selling merchandise or services, soliciting for later sales, or placing orders.
- Study room 1 is available for walk-in use and cannot be reserved in advance.
- Study Room 2 can be reserved for the current week beginning on Mondays at 9 AM
- Study rooms may be used for up to 2 hours/day/user or group.
- The Decorah Public Library Code of Conduct applies to use of the meeting room and study rooms.
- The Library Board and the City of Decorah or their employees or agents are not liable for any claims arising from the use of these facilities.
- Failure to abide by Library policies and procedures may result in denial of future meeting room and study room requests.
