Decorah Public Library Announces Summer Reading Program

Decorah Public Library has announced its summer reading program for 2026. Titled Operation: READ!, the spy-themed program will offer a series of activities and events designed to help young readers maintain their reading skills throughout the summer. The program will begin with a spy-mission-themed kickoff event May 29 from 5–7 p.m. at the Carrie Lee playground and field. 

The summer reading program will ask participants to read for at least 20 minutes a day, five days a week. For every five days completed, readers unlock a clue bringing them one step closer to learning where the final mission will take place. Additional weekly challenges and prizes will be available at the library. 

The summer reading program is an annual challenge offering prizes for time spent reading throughout the summer, as well as community activities for all ages. “The Summer Reading Program is one of our most popular programs of the year,” said Sophie Nall, children’s and young adult librarian. “It’s a great opportunity to keep reading skills sharp and combat the summer slide, all while giving families an opportunity to enjoy free, community activities.” The full events calendar can be found at decorahlibrary.org. Questions?
