Decorah Public Cinema presents Desk Set
Decorah Public Library and ArtHaus are pleased to announce the next film for Decorah Public Cinema. Desk Set will be screened on Friday, September 11 at 8 PM in the library’s mezzanine.
Decorah Public Cinema screens independent, award winning, classic, and foreign films on the second Friday of each month, creating a space for the community to gather and enjoy thought-provoking films in a relaxed, welcoming environment. All screenings are free and open to adults 18 and older.
September will feature Desk Set, a 1957 romantic comedy directed by Walter Lang and Starring Katherine Hepburn and Spencery Tracy.
Bunny Watson (Katharine Hepburn) is a library reference clerk stuck in a dead-end relationship with a boring television executive (Gig Young). Her life is thrown into turmoil when computer expert Richard Summers (Spencer Tracy) enters it. He has been assigned with automating her department, and she is fearful that Summers’ new computers will automate her out of a job. She despises him at first, but eventually each of the two start to fall for the other’s charms and strong personalities.
“We’re thrilled to partner with ArtHaus to show movies you might not get to see without taking a road trip.” said Zach Row-Heyveld, DPL assistant director. “We know there are a lot of film fans in the area and we’re excited to fill a gap in what movies people can see in town.”
Complimentary popcorn and snacks will be available, with a free will donation box to support future programming. Seating is first-come, first-served, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Doors open at 7:30.
