Decorah kids have their noses in the books this summer, sniffing out their favorite stories! We’ll be keeping track of reading streaks, hitting the books as often as we can to win fun prizes! FAQ:
Q: When does the Summer Reading program take place?
A: Our Summer Reading Kickoff takes place May 31st, and the program will continue through July 31st. You must log your reading before July 31st to be awarded your prizes!
Q: Who can participate in the Summer Reading Program?
A: This program is designed for kids aged 0-18. Adults are welcome to support their favorite kiddos in achieving their reading goals, but we will be reserving prizes only for participants aged 18 and under.
Q: Do I have to use Beanstack to participate?
A: Yes, in order for us to save paper and keep our records in one place, we do ask that you have a Beanstack account to track your reading. However, if you prefer to keep a paper list for tracking, you may input all reading data at one time instead of tracking as you go. Beanstack allows bulk-logging, so you may do it periodically or only once if desired.
Q: How much do I have to read for it to count as one day?
A: There is no magic number, as this program is designed to encourage the habit of reading daily. But, for a general rule, think about 10 minutes, or the length of one picture book, as a good baseline for how long to read each day.
Q: What are the prizes and how do I get them?
A: Prizes will be awarded when the following benchmarks are reached:
14 days of reading: SRP Sticker
30 days of reading: Choice between free scoop of ice cream or 1-day pool pass
50 days of reading: DPL Book Bag
Prizes can be redeemed at the front desk of Decorah Public Library. Be sure to show your beanstack tracker badge via your phone or a printed copy at the circulation desk!
