The Cookbook Book group at the Decorah Public Library will meet on June 10 and July 8 at 7 PM to discuss Mely Martínez’s “The Mexican Home Kitchen.” The Cookbook Book Group is open to the public, but books and space are limited, so registration is required. Register by emailing Zach Row-Heyveld (zrow-heyveld@decorah.lib.ia.us) or calling 563-277-5185. Register before May 21st to reserve a copy of the book. Funds for multiple copy sets were generously provided by Friends of Decorah Public Library.
Mely Martínez lived most of her life in Mexico and is a former school teacher turned food blogger and accomplished home cook. She’s been publishing recipes for authentic Mexican home cooking on her blog Mexico In My Kitchen (mexicoinmykitchen.com) for the last 12 years. “The Mexican Home Kitchen” is her first cookbook and features over 85 recipes from soups and entrees to desserts and drinks that capture the kind of home cooking made for generations in Mexico.
The Cookbook Book Group will spend two meetings on each cookbook. The first meeting will be a chance for participants to share first impressions of the cookbook, their favorite and least favorite recipes so far and other general observations. The second meeting will go into more depth and discussion about recipes participants have gone back to more than once and techniques and ideas they’ve incorporated into their everyday cooking.
