Happy Juneteenth!
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is considered the oldest celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States. Today we want to celebrate by sharing a video of author/poet/Newbery/and Caldecott winner Kwame Alexander reading his beautiful Newbery Award Winning book The Undefeated.
Looking for more ways to celebrate?
We learned about the following book events planned for June 19 from The Brown Bookshelf:
Author L.L. McKinney and Publicist and Bronx Book Festival Founder Saraciea Fennell are launching the Juneteenth Book Festival. Featuring Black authors and publishing professionals, it’s an event to “boost and celebrate Black American stories and the people behind them.” Details – https://www.kirkusreviews.com/…/authors-to-celebrate-junet…/.
