It's #finditTuesday and today we're helping you find #ownvoices picture books by Indigenous and First Nations authors and illustrators.
Created by YA author Corinne Duyvis in 2015, the #OwnVoices hashtag highlights books written by authors or illustrators who share an identity with the book's main character. We love these picture books for the vibrant stories they tell and the way they highlight the diversity and richness of North American culture.
Interested in more books? Check-out the "Children, JF, YA ~ "Own Voices" books by First Nations authors" booklist on Decorah Public Library's catalog.
(Please note: the labels attached to the photos reflect how the authors of the books we highlighted refer to themselves. For example, we used "nation" when the author chose to include it in his/her/their bio and did not when the book's creator referred to themselves in a different way. We also understand that every culture is diverse and that one person's story or stories can never reflect the truths of a whole civilization.)
