Safe Touch for Parents

Decorah Public Library is offering a free program on how to talk to your kids about safe touch and consent, presented by staff from the Riverview Center. This program will run from 5:30-6:30 PM on Wednesday, October 9, in the library’s mezzanine.

If you’ve been struggling for words or a strategy for talking with your kiddos about body parts, safe touch, and consent, come to this free program to learn how to do it in an age-appropriate way! Shiloh and Lupita from the Riverview Center in Decorah will help walk you through why it’s so important to use the correct terms for body parts, how to identify who are safe people kids can talk to or go to for help, what is a safe touch and what isn’t, and how to teach your kids about consent from an early age.

Shiloh and Lupita are both Sexual Assault Advocates at the Decorah office of the Riverview Center. The Riverview Center’s mission is to create a community free of violence and offers free services to people who have been victims of sexual assault. They help with legal and medical advocacy, serve as peer counselors to people of all ages, and work closely with law enforcement and hospital staff to help people after an assault.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Zach Row-Heyveld at Decorah Public Library – zrow-heyveld@decorahlibrary.org or by calling 563.382.3717
