Friday Book Group: “The Women”
Decorah Public Library staff are hosting one book discussion in August. The group is open to the public and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested should call the library at 382-3717 to learn more or to reserve a book. Funds for multiple copy sets were generously provided by Friends of Decorah Public Library.
The Friday Book Group will meet on the 2nd floor of the library Fri. August 23 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss Kristin Hannah’s “The Women.” Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. But war is just the beginning for Frankie. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America that wants to forget Vietnam.
