Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation Workshop: May 4

Do you love mushrooms, but get nervous about foraging? Learn how to grow your own shiitake mushrooms in a hands-on workshop at Decorah Public Library from 5:30-7 on Thursday, May 4. Adam Bohach, Decorah High School Biology teacher and owner of Tailwind Acres will teach participants everything they need to know about how to grow their own shiitake mushrooms at home on oak logs.

Bohach, a native of Northeast Iowa, has been growing mushrooms on his farm and with his high school biology students for a number of years. He will guide participants through every step of the mushroom cultivation process, from preparing the logs, to inoculating them with mushroom spawn, to caring for and harvesting the mushrooms at home.

Space is limited to 15 people and registration in advance is required. Register at decorahlibrary.org or by emailing Zach Row-Heyveld (zrow-heyveld@decorahlibrary.org.) The event is free to attend and participants are encouraged to make a $20 donation to cover the cost of materials.
